The best receiver on their board

Oh lord this receiving core is atrocious. The Miami Dolphins entered the 2020 off-season with the belief that their receiving core was one of the strengths of their roster. For many reasons, some of them out of their control, they were wrong. The offensive weaponry as a whole, outside of the outstanding tight end group, was dreadful this season.

The season started to get out of hand when Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson opted out of the 2020 season because of the Coronavirus pandemic. That was before the year even started. Injuries also derailed this unit with a combined 24 missed games from the “perceived” top five starters. Top top it all off, the Dolphins finished top three in the NFL in terms of drops.

There was a lot of dialogue about offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, who may be fired soon, not calling plays to push the ball downfield when Tua Tagovailoa was starting. There was even more dialogue about Tagovailoa not seeing the field well, which is true in some cases. At the same time, the week 17 game showed exactly why both of them were struggling with that. The receivers just can’t catch the football.

Whether it be Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, or Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins need to kick off the draft with adding weapons for their young quarterback. A perfect example is the Buffalo Bills and how they have developed Josh Allen. They brought in weapons, along with great development of his game, and it helped him become an MVP candidate.
