2. Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger is aging poorly. His level of play has not been where we are used to seeing it and his inability to consistently push the football down the field is concerning. He’s made comments about returning for his 18th season next year but are we sure that’s a good idea? Mason Rudolph is not a starting quarterback in the NFL. He’s an average backup at best. Joshua Dobbs will never be a starting quarterback so this decision should be easy right?

Now let’s talk compensation. Watson is arguably a top-five or six quarterback right now so there’s no lowballing on a player of this magnitude. The Steelers can offer picks 28 and 60 in the 2021 NFL Draft first. While also adding, a first-round pick in 2022 and 2023. If Houston was to ask for more compensation you can look at adding a player like JuJu Smith-Schuster to the deal.

Yes, that’s a lot to give up for a quarterback but Watson is more than worth it. There’s plenty of talent on this Steelers team. Young players who are competing and ready to win. If Pittsburgh was able to win 12 games with an aging Ben Roethlisberger, Watson can carry this team to a Super Bowl.

Looking into the future it might suck not having those first-round picks but nobody will care how much you gave up for a player if it’s resulting in wins for your franchise. Life after Big Ben is here and it’s for the Steelers organization to come up with a plan for a future successor.
