Option 3: Bolster the front seven.

Despite the major hole at receiver that free agency can create, the Lions still have a solid group of players on the offensive side of the ball overall. The defense, however, is in major need of adding talent at all levels.

Kwity Paye, who would be a hometown selection coming from the University of Michigan, would be a fantastic fit for Detroit’s combination of needs. He brings solid athleticism and versatility as a pass rusher with experience attacking offensive lines from almost every technique spot, but his interior rush ability and run defense would be assets that help the Lions two-fold. Complementing Trey Flowers on the outside but helping bottle up any rushing attack would be a tremendous help and a great start to adding young, premiere talent to their front seven.

Gregory Rousseau and Azeez Ojulari are other names to consider here, as athletic EDGE defenders that would juice up the pass rush for Detroit. But do not discount the pursuit of a linebacker either. Penn State’s Micah Parsons has long been considered the best linebacker heading to the NFL and his ability to attack the run, rush the passer, along with his movement in space allow him to be a well-rounded playmaker that could contribute immediately. With Jamie Collins the only proven player in that group, Parsons would be a huge upgrade for a talent-deprived position.
