2021 NFL Draft: Get to know the underrated Victor Dimukeje
Weaknesses
What holds Dimukeje back in many respects is his lack of size and lack of arm length. There have been players in the past such as Dwight Freeney and Elvis Dumervil who lacked the requisite size needed for the position, but went on to have success in the NFL. However, not everyone who is 6-2 at 265 can be Freeney or Dumervil. As such, Dimukeje’s shortcomings as far as length, cause him to be overpowered by larger offensive tackles who possess better arm length.
This is not only a problem in run defense but in pass defense as well, where generally the same rule applies. The distinction in this regard is that he could make up for his length issues if he developed more counters into his repertoire. As mentioned on the previous slide, his initial rush is good, but if he is unable to soften the edge on his initial rush he will become stymied at the top of his arc.
Lastly, Dimukeje is also held back by his athleticism or lack thereof. This isn’t to say that he is completely inept as an athlete and in fact it’s quite the contrary. But when compared to others in the 2021 NFL Draft class such as Penn State’s Jayson Oweh, he almost pales by comparison. He may look a little stiff when changing directions, and this writer doesn’t believe that he can grow much more in that regard.
