Round 5, Pick 156 – Trevon Grimes, WR, Florida

The struggles of the 49ers’ offense in 2020 could also be attributed to the loss of 2019 rookie star Deebo Samuel. The explosive playmaker missed the majority of the 2020 season due to injury, and the offense never seemed to recover. Even the emergence of 2020 first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk was not enough to overcome the absence of Samuel. San Francisco could augment any future injuries with a depth pick here of Florida receiver Trevon Grimes.

The junior receiver was part of a dynamic 2020 trio of pass catchers for the Gators and quarterback Kyle Trask. Grimes is a former Ohio State transfer with great size at 6-foot-4 and speed that emerged as a legitimate all-around receiver in 2020. He could replace Kendrick Bourne as a starter outside and provide another big-time weapon for this young offense for the future.

Round 6, Pick 169 – Brady Christensen, OT, BYU

As I mentioned previously, the 49ers struggled with injuries, especially on the offense in 2020. The offensive line did not perform as well as in 2019. And in turn, the explosiveness and cohesion of the offensive unit suffered. The team already added Wyatt Davis earlier in this Mock Draft, but it would make sense for San Francisco to add multiple reinforcements upfront.

Christensen could be gone before this pick, but the depth of this class is tremendous in 2021. He was a consensus Associated Press All-American as one of the better tackles in college football this season. Christensen would add substantial protection for the team behind stalwarts Williams and McGlinchey. Christensen is prepared to make a significant impact at the next level.
