2. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

Should Jacksonville choose to head in an alternate direction for whatever reason, Justin Fields should be the choice. The drop off from Lawrence to Fields is apparent but Fields is no slouch. Yes, he had some bad performances in some big games, but he silenced doubters with an impressive and tough performance against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

Fields finished the game going 22/28 for 385 yards and six passing touchdowns with one interception. He also topped it off with a QBR of 99.0. He took a big shot and was in a great deal of pain. Not only did he show toughness and grit, but he showed that he’s a leader. Fields put his team on his back and were able to secure the 49-28 win.

Fields may several NFL level throws in arguably one of the biggest games of his life. He showed the arm talent and accuracy needed to be a successful quarterback at the next level. He’s a natural thrower and has shown that he can make throws on the move as Ohio State did a fantastic job of moving the pocket and using his athleticism.

Fields is the current mold of quarterbacks that are having success in the league today. Look at some of the most talented quarterbacks right now who are having success. Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, and even Kyler Murray.

They all possess the ability to extend plays with their feet and make plays on the ground if need be. In no way shape or form am I comparing Justin Fields to any of those quarterbacks. I’m not saying Fields will have the success that those quarterbacks are having either. Simply just stating that the NFL is trending towards quarterbacks who can improvise.
