2021 NFL Draft: Rashawn Slater has real shot at OT1
By Hunter Neel
Looking at the game of Rashawn Slater
Okay, now for Slater. Perhaps one of his best traits is his versatility across the line. Many believe that Slater could start at any of the five positions and be a plus starter. This type of versatility will likely draw many teams in, as it allows you to put your best five linemen out on the field instead of foreably moving players around to make one fit in your line. While he has the possibility to be a good guard, like many others, he should be given a fair opportunity to succeed at tackle before moving inside.
Slater is a very smart player who is quick to identify late rushers and understands how to work off blocks to pick them up. He shows good ability to keep pace in his pass sets and his hand use is ideal for the position. As both a run and pass blocker he finds good success and should do the same at the next level. His technique is very consistent across the board and his footwork is precise, with great lateral mobility to mirror rushers movements.
Slater will want to add some more strength and mass to his frame for more success versus bigger, stronger defenders but even now his re-anchor is good even if he gives up ground initially. Thanks to his IQ, mobility, and physicality Slater should find a starting job early in the league.
