2. Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa

Many are not too keen on taking a linebacker not named Micah Parsons this high. However, this may come down to a best player available situation. It’s likely that receiver will already be addressed at this time. It ‘s far too early to consider running back or center, making linebacker the only position truly worth taking.

Even if there is belief that using high picks on linebackers, Collins is a little different. Zaven Collins is as versatile as they come, making him an excellent complement and inevitable replacement to big money free agent Kyle Van Noy. Collins can play traditional linebacker, rush the passer, and drop into coverage.

There is no shortage of roles that Flores could deploy Collins in. The Dolphins were terrible against the run in 2020, and Collins could really help in improving in that area. Whether it be stacking and shedding or making plays in space, Collins is excellent against the run. Teams found success running to the edge against the Dolphins. An athletic linebacker to get out there and make a play in space would go a long way.

With their intense focus on defensive backs, the Dolphins are excellent against the pass. Adding Collins would be a new piece to a great pass defense. His ability to move helps him in coverage, and the Dolphins should deploy him as a blizter similarly to how they use Jerome Baker.
