By Cory Kinnan
The 2021 NFL Draft is inching closer and closer by day, there is more transfer news, quarterback carousel updates, and even some free agent rumors. Look in for today’s edition of NFL Draft Digest as the offseason moves right along towards the new league year.
Texans could have 2nd pick in 2021 NFL Draft?
John McClain, the man who is usually on the forefront of news surrounding the Houston Texans, has reported that if the team is to trade their disgruntled superstar quarterback in Deshaun Watson, then he would be heading to the Big Apple. McClain has stated that the Jets are the destination in mind for the Texans if they decide to move Watson.
For an aging roster with no draft capital and cap space, this move would be a logical one for Houston to make. This would net the Texans the second overall pick in the draft, as well as either pick 23 or 33 in the 2021 NFL Draft as well. Not to mention the future draft haul they would get as well. A win-win for both teams, Watson’s trade destination is becoming clear.
Raiders interested in free agent wide receiver
As the new league year approaches, so does free agency.
It is a talented class of players who are no longer under-contract with their current teams, including wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. With a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers still on the table for him, there is another team that has emerged as serious contenders for his services.
the Las Vegas Raiders, looking to make more than one splash this offseason, have become infatuated with the Pittsburgh wide receiver with just a month to go. Where will Smith-Schuster land, and how much money will he make this offseason?
LSU lands big transfer LB
With the new transfer rules taking place across the nation, tons of players have flooded the transfer portal. A year ago we saw names like JT Daniels, Jamie Newman, and Jaelan Phillips head to new teams, but LSU landed a big time linebacker in Jabril Cox from North Dakota State as well. This offseason, again, the Tigers have landed another transfer linebacker, this time from the University of Clemson.
Former Clemson linebacker Mike Jones Jr. is making the move from the ACC to the SEC. In nine games this past season, Jones Jr. racked up 13 solo tackles, four tackles for loss, half of a sack, two interceptions, and two passes defended.
