As previously mentioned, the Browns will look to overhaul their secondary, and safety will likely be a position they are willing to spend big money on in free agency. While Justin Simmons was a trade target at the deadline with the Denver Broncos, Williams looks to be the younger, and slightly cheaper option for the Browns on the open market.

A free safety who shows great range over the top of the defense is needed desperately, and Williams possesses just that skillset after four seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He will turn just 25 at the beginning of the season, and already has 13 career interceptions and 30 passes defended. The lack of a rangy safety was a massive hinderance to the Browns a year ago, and forced the likes of Ward to do too much work without any help.

After popping his achilles in training camp, the Browns cannot bank on Delpit returning to full health after an unfortunate, freak injury. Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo are likely gone after playing out one year deals, leaving a gaping hole in the secondary moving forward. If the Browns spend big money on Williams, that would significantly alter their draft plans.
