Texans: 3 potential J.J. Watt replacements in 2021 NFL Draft
2. Ade Ogundeji, Notre Dame
It will take you longer to learn his name than it will for him to show he can play at the next level. I love this kid and watched him play several times this season. 6-foot-4 and 268 pounds, I think he will tip the scales heavier then that at the pro-day, but he proved to be a force in college. With 22 tackles, six and a half sacks and a forced fumble for an up-and-down Notre Dame team.
He will have an easier move to 3-4 defensive end, but he could also play outside linebacker as well. Unlike Tyron the last player mentioned he has much more experience on the defensive line. Against Florida State and North Carolina he had two sacks in each of those contests, showing he can get to the quarterback consistently and often.
His 40-time is about the same as Tyron coming in at 4.75, he’s projected between rounds 4-6. While Ogundeji has not had a ton of snaps as the starter college level and was rotated in and out he has a lot of untapped talent and has the size and motor to make noise at the next level.
This is another bank on the upside type player, he’s got the size and intelligence you want and need, what he needs is time to develop. He may take two or three seasons to get to the level of production you want for him, but he should be able to step in day-one and start playing at a good level vs draft position.
