Ravens: 3 free agents who could alter 2021 NFL Draft plans
Tyus Bowser – EDGE/Off-Ball Linebacker
The Baltimore Ravens face an uphill battle when it comes to their future outlook at outside linebacker. As mentioned in the introduction, Pro Bowler’s Matthew Judon and Yannick Ngakoue are set to become free agents this offseason. They plus veterans Pernell McPhee and defensive end/outside linebacker Jihad are also set to hit the open market.
Not to sound completely redundant, the Ravens cap situation may potentially prevent them resigning Ngakoue or Judon to a long-term deal, and they really shouldn’t look to rely on McPhee either. However, there was one name left out of this group that is also a pending free agent himself that Ravens fans should have noticed. That is none other than former University of Houston standout Tyus Bowser.
Although he hasn’t had the most outstanding career up to this point, Bowser is a proper contributor in Don Martindale’s defensive scheme. Bowser may not be the sack master fans want at this point, however his three interceptions this season speak to his abilities in coverage having only started in two games.
Bowser could be a relatively inexpensive signing that could see his play improve in a more expanded role, as he’s starting to reach the age when pass rushers often breakout. Re-signing Bowser and drafting a player such as Joseph Ossai or Jaelan Phillips could prove fruitful for the Ravens long-term.
