Alijah Vera-Tucker, Offensive Line, Southern California

We just saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense led by former Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles whip the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line in the Super Bowl. That proves that you need to have a solid group of offensive lineman beyond the first five.

The Jets first five isn’t even that great to begin with, they are one of the worst offensive lines in football despite putting a lot of resources into it such as drafting Mekhi Becton 11th overall last year and paying a lot of money for George Fant and Conner McGovern.

Becton struggled last year and I believe he will have a bounce back year with a somewhat more normal offseason. Adding Vera-Tucker would add flexibility on the offensive line because he can protect the quarterback and more than just two spots. He can play both guard spots and right tackle with likelihood he gets put at right tackle while Becton stays at left.

This pick has to compliment and make the second overall pick, likely a quarterback, look good. Adding protection to an offense that gave up almost three sacks a game is never a bad thing and adding depth with Vera-Tucker is a bonus.
