The Carolina Panthers boast one of the most dynamic and best running backs of the current era. What they do not boast, is well pretty much anything else outside of D.J. Moore.  While the draft offers a ton of answers, so does free agency. The Panthers currently hold the eighth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, free agency could send the current thought process of that pick into a tail spin.

Finding ways to allow Christian McCaffrey to flourish and stay healthy, should be one of the main ideas in both the draft and free agency. With their first pick we have seen mocks all over the board from such players as Trey Lance, DeVonta Smith, Kyle Pitts, and even some out there suggesting Micha Parsons, The Panthers only have one position locked down, I also wouldn’t rule out searching for the next quarterback.

The current make up of the Panthers is a core of really good young players, and the need for veteran leadership after the sudden retirement of soon to be Hall of Farmer Luke Kuechly is quite apparent. Lucky for them there is a dearth of quality veterans in free agency.

We can also stare another wide receiver in the draft with stone cold eyes as a legit chance. However, we will see multiple good pass catchers in free agency that can help progress the young pass catchers such as Moore and Robby Anderson. Getting a veteran free agent wide receiver over a rookie, would be the best choice with questions at quarterback. If they do go a rookie, getting the best talent for him to learn with would make a lot of sense for the franchises future.

As of right now the Panthers currently have over $12 million in cap, and I expect to see that number to slightly increase. As there should be several players who come under strong consideration for being cut such as Tre Boston and Greg Little.

Let’s start taking a look at the free agents who could rock the current Panthers thoughts for the upcoming draft.
