The Kansas City Chiefs fell just short of going back-to-back on Super Bowl wins this year. What does that mean you say? It means there is a glaring problem for the Chiefs, the defense. Granted the offense was completely shut down, but when you allow tons of points it makes you one-dimensional on offense. Free Agency and the draft will be how they can fix the issues that were horridly exploited in the Super Bowl this year.

The big questions come to mind in do they have enough talent on defense? Is the offensive line not nearly as good as we thought because Patrick Mahomes has the ability to throw from anywhere? Or are the wide receivers minus Tyreek far below the level we thought they were?

The Kansas City Chiefs upgraded at running back last year with Clyde Edwards and has a good running back set. But, did not do much after that. They will now look to add more talent in both the 2021 NFL Draft and in free agency.

What holes will Chiefs look to fill?

Sammy Watkins is set to hit the market this offseason, and Demarcus Robinson looks to have hit the top of his ability as well. Travis Kelce, while the elite an tight end, is only getting older. So should they focus on offense? No, I think a wide receiver would help, but they need to adjust that pass rush and the secondary which was horridly exploited more than once in the playoffs this year.

While for a Super Bowl team they are not in super horrid cap trouble, they are around $18 million over the cap, but there are far worse teams in far worse situations. We have seen teams in worse situations somehow make cap space, so I would expect the Chiefs could do the same.

They will need to make some hard choices in cuts, but there are options in free agency to fix their holes, that should not break the bank. I expect Kansas City to end up with more than enough cap space, by the time the league year starts. Teams are getting better at adjusting contracts, or more willing to cut guys with high cap numbers that don’t translate to legit value.

So who will the Chiefs sign that will rock their draft ideas?
