The Dolphins rushing attack was lackluster at best in 2020. Miami ranked 29th in yards per carry, and would have been dead last if not for an anomaly game against the New England Patriots. While another year with their three rookie offensive linemen may help, adding another runner may be beneficial.

Veteran Mark Ingram was released by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this year. Out for much of 2020, Ingram saw his job taken by rookie J.K. Dobbins. However, Ingram was stellar in 2019, finishing with over 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns with a whopping five yards per carry. That would be more than a whole yard per carry more than the Dolphins got from their running back room.

Myles Gaskin is expected to be the Dolphins starter next season, but is not expected to be a bell cow runner. It is widely expected that the team will look to add a running back during the draft, with many attaching Alabama’s Najee Harris to the team. Adding Ingram may push that need down the board and give Miami some flexibility.

The idea of drafting a running back in the first round has been brought up by many for the Dolphins. That would truthfully be a waste of all the resources that Miami is currently holding. The best course of action is to bring in Ingram on a team friendly deal and hoping that Gaskin or a mid round pick flourishes.
