Miami was just outside of the top ten sacks last season, but that does not tell the whole story when it comes to the pass rush. The Dolphins were able to generate sacks with some well timed blitzes, pre snap movement, and excellent coverage on the back end. However, their lack of a consistent pass rush was evident in many of their games.

Miami has expressed interest in negotiating a long term deal with breakout edge rusher Emmanuel Ogbah. However, as of now, no talks have been had and Ogbah is set to enter free agency next off-season. Going out and locking up a pass rusher may be at the top of the Dolphins list this off-season.

Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Bud Dupree enters free agency with less leverage than he had originally anticipated. Dupree had a breakout season in 2019 with 11.5 sacks on a stellar Steelers defense. Through eleven games in 2020, he was just as productive, totaling eight sacks. However, a season ending injury forces Dupree to enter free agency with serious medical red flags.

The Dolphins could offer Dupree something similar to what they offered Ogbah last year. Ogbah signed a two year, $15 Million deal with all of the guarantees in the first year. Obviously, Dupree would command a larger financial commitment than just $7.5 Million per season however. Adding an edge rusher like the former Kentucky Wildcat in free agency would allow Miami to shift their draft focus to their offensive weaponry.
