There is a theme to this list of free agents the Dolphins could be targeting. With just a modest amount of cap space this year, the Dolphins should be looking to buy low on some players. Miami will have considerably more money to work with next off-season and could look to make a splash then as they did in 2020.

Upgrading the safety position is crucial for the Dolphins this off-season. Bobby McCain was fine there in 2020, but can be improved upon. It’s also important that the Dolphins can save over $6 Million by cutting or trading McCain after June first.

Malik Hooker is likely to be departing from the Indianapolis Colts in this free agency cycle. The Colts declined to pick up his fifth year option in 2020, now making him an unrestricted free agent. Hooker has been unable to stay healthy for most of his young NFL career, making his price tag much smaller than that of Justin Simmons and Marcus Williams.

Hooker would be a small and short term investment for the team. Being able to move on from McCain and add a more explosive player would be something that Miami would be interested in. Miami has prioritized athleticism in the secondary and McCain is one of the outliers.
