Samuel Cosmi, Offensive Tackle

Coming in at 6-foot-7 and 309 pounds, the three-year starting offensive tackle for Herman’s Longhorns is another prospect we will see possibly on day two of April’s Draft. Cosmi was part of Herman’s first recruiting class at Texas in 2017 and redshirted his first year.

He played both tackles spots for Herman’s offense that put up big numbers his freshman and sophomore seasons. That experience at both spots can be helpful at the next level because if a team in the second round needs a right tackle but also a guy that has the versatility to play the left tackle spot when the starting left tackle is hurt, it covers two roster spots with one guy.

Cosmi isn’t in the top tier of tackles in this draft which is held by Oregon’s Penei Sewell and Northwestern’s Reshawn Slater. He is definitely a guy that is closer to the next tier of tackles in Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw and USC’s Alijah Vera-Tucker. He could sneak in the back five picks of the first round but more than likely is middle to late second round pick.

Chicago could definitely use a tackle in the second round and with Herman in the building it could help the conversations get started. With Kyle Long retiring and Charles Leno, Jr. a free agent after his season and the likelihood Bobbie Massie gets cut, the Bears could use another piece on the offensive line at tackle or guard. They hold the 52nd pick in the second round, probably a good spot for Cosmi to reunite with his college coach.
