As the 2021 NFL Draft is now less than two months away, there should be very little mystery as to who the first overall pick will be. When the Jacksonville Jaguars come on the clock to start the affairs, they will more than likely have had their draft card filled out for months as Trevor Lawrence stands before them.

The Jaguars made an entire highlight reel of their new staff, led by former National Championship-winning head coach Urban Meyer, attending the pro day of Lawrence. He has been the prized jewel for three years running, and now the Jags have their face of the franchise in their sights.

Now, a couple of former first round quarterbacks have begun speaking on Lawrence and their fit with the Jaguars as future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and former first rounder of the Denver Broncos Tim Tebow give their thoughts.

Manning excited for Lawrence

Former second overall pick back in the 1998 NFL Draft, Manning went on to be one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history, becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer in this year’s class of elite. Winning Super Bowls with both the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, Manning knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a successful quarterback.

And he thinks Lawrence has it:

"“He hasn’t plateaued at all from an incredibly successful freshman year. And it looks like he can play the quarterback position different ways: he can stay in the pocket but he’s athletic and can run and move. The more you can do, certainly the better.”"

What are some challenges Lawrence may face in Jacksonville? None more than he and his brother faced when they were top picks in their respective drafts. There is a reason the team selecting you is picking as high as they are:

"“Wherever you go — as Eli would tell you or my dad would tell you — you’re going to a team that has holes. That’s why they have the first pick,” Manning said. “As I used to say when I was the first pick of the Colts, ‘The Colts had really earned that No. 1 pick… Sometimes that can be challenging for sure, but very rewarding… Trevor is a good guy to try and build around for a turnaround.”"

Tebow speaks on Lawrence’s fit with Jaguars

While Tebow’s football career did not pan out after Josh McDaniels reached to make him a first round pick, the decorated Florida Gator and former Heisman Trophy winner does have experience working with the next head coach of the Jaguars.

When looking into the game of Lawrence, Tebow has a hard time putting his finger on a glaring weakness in his game.

"“They have to pull the trigger and make that happen… I think that Trevor brings so much to the table. Not only is he a great athlete that has an incredible skill set, but he’s also a very mature young man that has been in a lot of big moments. That really helps with the pressure. Having the chance to possibly come to a place in Jacksonville that will be super excited to have him and really, I guess, as a city bring him in with open arms, I think that will be really encouraging for a young quarterback.”"

As far as working with Meyer? Tebow states Lawrence will be put in a position from day-one:

"“He’ll have the chance, if he gets teamed up with Urban, one of the things I love about Urban is he’s going to put someone in a position where their strengths can flourish. He’s always done that. I believe he’ll always do that.”"

It is far too early to give Trevor Lawrence his jacket and his bust just yet, however, after three dynamic seasons at Clemson, it is easy to see how he is often classified as a generational prospect. Just under two months now until Lawrence officially dawns the Jacksonville teal and black.
