Now that Dan Quinn is in the building, he’s going to implement his cover-3 scheme to the defense. Richard Sherman is a veteran cornerback, with plenty of experience in cover-3. Despite his age, Sherman is still playing football at a relatively high level. With Chidobe Awuzie hitting free agency, and seeing young cornerback Trevon Diggs struggle in year one, the front office should look to bring in an experienced corner who can help Diggs adapt to the NFL and the cover-3 scheme.

The Cowboys desperately need a cornerback, and signing Sherman can get them an experienced one to boost their young secondary. Signing Sherman also opens up some options in round one of the draft. Up to this point, the popular selection for the Cowboys is a cornerback at number ten overall.

While this doesn’t completely eliminate cornerback from the conversation, it definitely opens up other possibilities. If this signing comes to fruition, Jerry Jones might look to trade down and gather some other picks to target, say, an interior defensive lineman. According to spotrac.com, Sherman’s market value is listed at $9.9 million per year, meaning they get this level of experience and play for less than $10 million.
