This makes too much sense. Keanu Neal was drafted by Dan Quinn in Atlanta, and was one of the Falcons’ best secondary players when he was on the field. A true strong safety, Neal can tackle with the best of them and can truly lay some big hits. With no good safeties on roster, the Cowboys should be able to sign Neal for relatively cheap and have him start immediately if he remains healthy.

Neal was hurt for a large portion of 2018 and 2019, but he played a full 2020 and was impactful as a box safety. The role of box safety is what Neal would play in Dallas, meaning that the possibility of a free safety in the draft is still on the board, but this eliminates the need for a linebacker/safety hybrid sort of player.

The best thing about this signing is it should be relatively cheap. The reason is because of his injury history, which implies risk in this signing, but Neal was healthy in 2020, and should be entering the 2021 season. Spotrac does not have his market value listed, but PFF has predicted that he will sign a deal averaging $5 million per year, which is more than affordable.
