After getting the franchise tag by the Patriots last year, Joe Thuney is going to get the chance to test free agency this year. Thuney has been one of the better guards in the NFL over recent years, and will require a lot of money; luckily for the Jets, money is something they have a lot of this offseason. According to Spotrac.com, Thuney’s market value is listed at $15.3 million per year.

Yes, that is pricey, but there should not be a price tag on protecting your quarterback. The Jets have many needs, but building around the quarterback might be the most important plan of action they have. With the number two overall pick basically reserved for a quarterback, all of these free agent targets will alter their second first round pick, which is number 23 overall.

There are some solid interior offensive line players in this draft class, but none will make as much of an impact as Joe Thuney. When teams have this much cap space, they can go after the big fish in free agency, and there is no reason the Jets should do anything other than that. Joe Thuney instantly upgrades the offensive line for the Jets. Becton and Thuney are a nice duo to start building this lineup with.
