With Robert Saleh in the building, this signing makes too much sense. Richard Sherman is a free agent and has spoken highly of Robert Saleh in the past, so it would only make sense that the Jets go after him in free agency. The Jets need multiple cornerbacks, so this might let the Jets wait for an extra round before addressing the position.

Sherman is going to be experienced in the defense Saleh is going to run and can help the young team mature. What makes this signing even better is that he shouldn’t require too much money to sign. Spotrac.com has his market value listed at $9.9 million per year, which is very reasonable given his age.

The Jets would be able to get a veteran presence into their defensive backfield while also upgrading the position at the same time; it’s a win-win. Saleh is one of the best defensive minds in football and will be able to work with the talent he has there already, but there is no doubt that he would want someone familiar with his scheme. Whether that be Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, or Ahkello Witherspoon; expect the Jets to sign one of the 49ers’ former cornerbacks.
