Green Bay Packers

The Packers also look set to lose a starting corner in free agency but there may be few in the organization sad to see the end of Kevin King’s time in Green Bay following his display in their NFC Championship Game defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Green Bay took the first of the two steps the Packers needed to take in the wake of King’s showing against Tampa. They dispensed with the services of the defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, who left him in man coverage at the end of the first half.

The second is to replace him with a corner who has the speed to avoid being burned by Scotty Miller for a crucial touchdown. Enter Stokes.

With Pettine being replaced by Joe Barry, Stokes is an obvious fit for the Packers. Having spent the last four seasons as assistant head coach/linebackers coach with the Los Angeles Rams, expect Barry to lean heavily on zone defense in his new role with the Packers.

Green Bay has other needs this offseason, linebacker is still a problem area and the Packers should really look to bolster Aaron Rodgers’ weapons at receiver after failing to do so last offseason. But if they feel corner is the most pressing area of concern, then it would be no surprise to see Stokes come off the board at pick 29.
