Round 2 of Jets mock draft

Round 2, Pick No. 34: Wyatt Davis (G, Ohio State)

The Jets offensive line has been an issue for much of the past decade. While it isn’t an exciting pick, Wyatt Davis is a solid, throwback guard. With the selection of Mekhi Becton in the first round last year and two starting-caliber guards this year, the Jets line is settled.

Round 2, Pick No. 38: TRADE

It has been three picks since the Jets made a trade so you just know that Douglas was getting antsy.

The Jets continue to acquire picks this year and next year, sending No. 38 to the Dallas Cowboys for two selections this year (No. 42, No. 74) and a fifth round pick next year. Again, the Jets have depth issues, and adding more Day 2 and Day 3 selections will be a help in reshaping the roster.

Round 2, Pick No. 41: Pat Freiermuth (TE, Penn State)

With one of the picks acquired in the trade with the Eagles, the Jets select one of the best tight ends in the draft. Pat Freiermuth is a good blocker who is a red zone threat. Last year for a Penn State offense that was pretty poor, he stood out with 23 catches for 310 yards and a touchdown.

Freiermuth gives the Jets a long-term answer a tight end, one who should help them down the field but also a solid blocker.

Round 2, Pick No. 42: Alim McNeil (DT, North Carolina State)

Having gotten this pick in trading back with the Cowboys, the Jets return to the defensive side of the ball.

Some thought was given to LSU linebacker Jabril Cox, who is tremendous in his coverage. But with the switch to Saleh’s 4-3 defense likely, the Jets desperately need help on the line and along the interior.

North Carolina State’s Alim McNeil can get after the quarterback (10 sacks in three seasons) but is also good in his gap assignment and stuffing the run. That he can generate a pass rush from the inside will benefit Quinnen Williams and last year’s edge rush selection, Jabari Zuniga.
