Round 2 Pick 44: C Creed Humphrey – Oklahoma

Creed Humphrey is a menace.

The Cowboys should jump at the opportunity to replace Travis Frederick, if Humphrey is still available here. The offensive line in Dallas has been decimated recently, and there’s no telling how much longer the rest of it will stay superglued together.

Humphrey will breathe some life into it. He’s a 6-foot-4 315 pound behemoth of a center, and even though he’s not the most physically gifted one in this draft, he knows how to use his size to his advantage to eat up rushing defenders. As an interior blocker, he’s shown great potential as a run-blocker.

He’s not the perfect scheme fit in Dallas, but talent usually shines through. I think Humphrey has the potential to be the guy for the Cowboys at that position for years to come.

Round 3 Pick 75: DT Marlon Tuipulotu – USC

Back to the defense we go!

Marlon Tuipulotu is a good scheme fit for a Cowboys defense that needs a lot of help – especially on the defensive line, since the secondary was addressed in the first round.

Tuipolotu is a little raw at times and never truly dominated in college, hence falling to the third round, but he shows potential in every facet of his play. He’s very athletic and twitchy for his size, and he’s adept at pass-rushing, but he truly shines against the run. He has a knack for positioning himself against runners in ways that make it easier for him to bring them down. He has great movement along the line without getting to aggressive.

I think he’s a guy who could potentially play for the next ten years, and that makes him someone the Cowboys want.

Round 3 Pick 99: RB Trey Sermon – Ohio State

There’s a decent chance Trey Sermon could be gone by this pick, but if not… Well, the Cowboys could get a little security.

Ezekiel Elliott’s future in Dallas is behind the eight ball. He’s under contract at minimum through 2022, but that could be all she wrote for him with the Cowboys if he doesn’t hit his stride again. Tony Pollard has been serviceable in his stead, but Dallas could lock up some serious talent here if they get the chance.

Trey Sermon started his career at Oklahoma, where allegedly a running backs coach scared him off. He shined for Ohio State in the College Football Playoff last season, which dramatically increased his draft potential.

Sermon has NFL size (he’s 6-foot-0 and 213 pounds) and the ball-carrying ability to be a three-down back at the next level. He has great balance and break-away ability. He’s also not bad at the second level, where he can outrun some defenders, or just bowl them over occasionally.

This would be a great fit for the Cowboys if he is still available.
