Cowboys land Patrick Surtain II, more in 7-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft

Round 6 Pick 194: CB Marco Wilson – Florida
Unfortunately, Marco Wilson will be remember by most, in the meantime, as the guy who blew Florida’s chance for a win against LSU late last season, and in the process eliminated the Gators from playoff contention.
He will have to work hard to repair his image in the NFL in that regard, but he has the tools to do it. He has good size at 6’0 and 190 lbs, and he has a rangy nature to his play that allows him to extend himself to make plays some cornerbacks can’t. He also possesses great footwork and moves around the field gracefully.
However, he’s not a great zone defender, which could be a turnoff for the Cowboys. He also plays timidly in press coverage, resembling Vernon Hargreaves III – another bust at cornerback to come out of Gainesville.
Whether he could become a predominant part in the Cowboys defense remains to be seen, but he could at the very least provide some depth to a poor secondary.
Round 7 Pick 232: QB Zac Thomas – Appalachian State
The Cowboys have locked up Dak Prescott, but last season they learned that beyond Andy Dalton, they don’t have another true backup quarterback.
Dalton is most likely leaving in free agency, so that means the Cowboys could be in contention to draft one in the later rounds. I don’t see them drafting one too high, so a guy like Zac Thomas could make sense here.
Thomas is a proven winner, sporting a 23-3 record at App State. Frankly, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the school’s history. That kind of mojo could help him as a pro. He’s got good accuracy, especially on the run, but he’s not a quarterback with special arm strength or instincts.
He also goes down easily in the pocket, and he could become a sack machine in the Cowboys offense. Still, his history alone makes him worth risking a seventh round pick.
