2021 NFL Draft: 3 sleeper WRs to keep close eye on
By Mark Sipos
1. Dax Milne, Brigham Young University
The favorite target of Zach Wilson, who is one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, Milne had an outstanding year for BYU, hauling in 70 catches for 1,188 yards and eight touchdowns. The junior from Utah made a huge jump from his sophomore season when he posted a line of 21-285-2. Milne was a big-time playmaker for the Cougars, averaging 17 yards per catch while having receptions of 78, 70, and 58 yards.
Milne shows good route running ability, as he uses his quick footwork to beat man coverage while using his agility to get in and out of his routes. Milne has also shown good intelligence while on the football field, settling in during zone coverages and understanding where he needs to be in order to move the chains. Rarely dropping the football, Milne shows good hands and concentration. Though he is not a burner, Milne is still a big playmaker who can offer a lot out of the slot and in special teams.
Though he will not be a number one wide receiver for a team, Milne will be able to land a solid role as a team’s #2 guy. Milne reminds me of Cleveland Browns’ Rashard Higgins. A smooth route runner with good hands who comes from a smaller school and might need a couple of seasons to adjust to the pace of NFL defensive backs. Look for Milne to land somewhere in the fifth-sixth round range. An ideal landing spot would be to reunite with his friend Zach Wilson, however, is versatile enough to play in any offense.
