2021 NFL Draft: 3 sleeper WRs to keep close eye on
By Mark Sipos
2. Isaiah McKoy, Kent State University
A junior from Kent State, Isaiah McKoy is another exciting, talented wide receiver coming out of the MAC conference. Though McKoy was only able to play in four games this season due to a shortened season, he put up insane numbers. Stretched out over a regular 10 game season, McKoy would have been on pace to post a stat line of 62 catches, 1,137 yards, and 13 touchdowns. McKoy’s made a name for himself as a deep threat, averaging over 18 yards per catch in his career for the Golden Flashes.
While McKoy posted disappointing numbers at Kent State’s pro day, running a 4.58 and 4.62 40 yard dash times, there were 20 teams in attendance to watch McKoy. In total, 24 teams had contacted head coach Sean Lewis about McKoy, either prior to or the day of the pro day. Though he wanted to post better numbers, McKoy should be thrilled to have that many teams interested in him. McKoy also measured in at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, coming in higher than the 183 pounds listed previously. McKoy could have put on some weight to improve his strength, which could have caused the slower than expected time.
McKoy will need a couple of seasons to continue his development at the next level. McKoy’s game speed is much more important to NFL teams than 40 yard dash results. Developing a full route tree will be key for McKoy moving forward. Landing on a team that is set at wide receiver to give McKoy the time to work on his craft would be the best situation. Teams such as the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Pittsburgh Steelers would all make sense for McKoy in the sixth to seventh round range.
