Miami Dolphins Mock NFL Draft — Day 1
In an interesting turn of events, this Miami Dolphins mock NFL Draft had both Trey Lance and Justin Fields available with the Dolphins selection at 6. That would be an incredibly interesting turn of events. I don’t think it will play out that way, but if it did, madness would ensue. Miami isn’t in a place in their franchise where they’re looking to draft a quarterback. If the draft played out like this, they would certainly be on the phones looking to trade down yet again.
Round 1, Pick 6: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
But, as I said, there are no trades in this Miami Dolphins mock NFL Draft. So with that in mind, we have the Dolphins addressing their glaring need at the wide receiver position with former LSU wide-out Ja’Marr Chase. The Dolphins picked up Will Fuller in free agency, and they still have DeVante Parker and Preston Williams at the position. However, it’s clear they’re looking to upgrade, and Chase is the best receiver available.
With Chase, the Dolphins turn a weakness into a strength. Fuller, when healthy, can provide the Dolphins with the explosive deep-threat the team desperately needs. Parker and Williams are solid, big-bodied options on the outside. Chase gives them the best of both worlds. He’s adept at contested-catch situations, and can give the team an explosive element to the offense, despite not being an elite separator.
Round 1, Pick 18: Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan
With their second first-round selection, the Dolphins have a lot of options. Najee Harris is, surprisingly, off the board already. That pick eliminates running back as an option, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins and TCU safety Trevon Moehrig are still available here, both at positions of need for the Dolphins. However, I think that were the board to fall like this, Miami would look to the EDGE position here and take Michigan product Kwity Paye.
Paye is an absolute athletic freak, posting an absurd 4.54 40-yard dash time at his Pro Day, while coming in at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds. On top of the blazing 40 time, Paye also put up 36 reps in the bench press, and has already posted a legendary 3-cone time. Paye is the definition of an athlete, and would bring a versatility to the position — and the Dolphins defense — that head coach Brian Flores covets.
