Offseason moves thus far for Bill Belichick

The Patriots did something they typically don’t do, and spent massive amounts of money in free agency. They decided to bring back Cam Newton and give him another chance with the brand new offense they are constructing. Newton can bounce back, and New England gives him the best opportunity to do so.

In order to get offensive firepower they have been lacking, the front office turned to the tight end position; the position that has been the model of consistency in New England. Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry were both on the board, meaning the Patriots could choose the player they feel like fits their offense more. Bill Belichick signed them both.

Additionally on offense, the Patriots signed deep threat receiver Nelson Agholor and the speedy route runner, Kendrick Bourne. The Patriots weren’t just active by getting players to put pen to paper; they made some phone calls and made some trades as well. New England called up Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden in Las Vegas and acquired offensive tackle Trent Brown, who played his best football in New England earlier in his career.

The big splash on defense was made when they signed Matt Judon away from the Ravens. However, acquiring players like Kyle Van Noy, Henry Anderson and Davon Godcheaux will provide some nice depth for the Patriots.

Bill Belichick shelled out a whole lot of money; some might say too much. One thing is clear, however, and that is that Bill Belichick wanted his guys, and wasn’t going to get outbid for them.
