Washington Football Team: 3 prospects to avoid in 2021 NFL Draft
By Adam Burruss
2. Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M
Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond is another quarterback who will price himself out of being a reasonable selection. The Washington Football Team cannot become enamored with his upside.
Mond is an incredibly talented quarterback. He has a cannon for an arm and a surprising amount of athleticism. If he develops, he could be scary.
The problem with Mond is his projection. ESPN’s Todd McShay currently mocks Mond as a 2nd round quarterback, and that sentiment is being echoed by many recently. If Mond truly goes in the second, that is a mistake. For all of his talent, he is beyond inconsistent. In some games, he looks like a future NFL quarterback. In others, he looks undraftable. Even if he rides the bench, his talent does not justify selecting him in Day 2 due to his litany of issues.
Other quarterbacks such as Stanford’s Davis Mills and Florida’s Kyle Trask will most likely be available in and after the range of Kellen Mond. While all three quarterbacks have their issues, Mills and Trask show far more consistency than Mond.
Mond is an intriguing project quarterback. Washington should not select a quarterback who is this much of a project in the second round when the team could focus on other needs and values.
