Finding three prospects the Miami Dolphins should avoid with the 6th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is no small task. Obviously, I could give you players who don’t have a hope of being drafted that high, but that’s a cop-out. The truth of the matter is, between the holes in Miami’s current roster and the fact that quartrbacks are likely to go 1-4, there aren’t very many realistic targets that would be legitimately bad selections for Miami.

Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II is no exception. Surtain absolutely has the talent to be a top-10 player in the 2021 NFL Draft. He also has bloodlines. Every Miami fan of a certain age reading this is going to immediately have fond memories of watching his dad, Patrick Surtain, Sr., dominate with Sam Maddison in the mid-to-late 90s. The younger Surtain is every bit the dominant cornerback his father was.

Miami is reportedly looking to upgrade the cornerback position, so why is it that Surtain is the last prospect on this list? It really just comes down to positional value vs. the holes on the current roster. Taking a cornerback that high is already not great value overall. Add in the fact that Miami still needs so much on the offensive side of the ball, and the bevy of explosive playmakers who would be a better fit, and it all adds up to Surtain being a not-great choice. As much as some fans may want to see him follow in his father’s footsteps.
