Offseason Moves

The Lions started the off-season with a bang when they traded their franchise quarterback, Matt Stafford, to the Los Angeles Rams. In the deal, Detroit recouped first round picks in 2022 and 2023, a third round pick in this April’s draft, and quarterback Jared Goff. If Goff proves to not be the franchise quarterback, Detroit has four picks in the next two first rounds and can draft their next quarterback. They can also move on from the former number one overall pick after the 2021 season.

The Lions will be losing a ton of veteran snaps in 2021. The big-name that left is Kenny Golladay, who signed a massive contract with the New York Giants. However, the list of veterans exiting the Motor City include Adrian Peterson, Danny Shelton, Danny Amendola, Justin Coleman, Jamal Agnew, Marvin Jones, Jarrad Davis, Desmond Trufant, Everson Griffen, Jesse James, Duron Harmon, and not to mention Stafford.

The Lions were able to bring back an important in-house free agent with Romeo Okwara returning on a three year, $37 Million contract. Detroit was content in letting players walk, and many of their additions came from players that were cut. They are sure to add some compensatory picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

Detroit has added Breshad Perriman and Tyrell Williams to address the massive hole at wide receiver and Josh Hill to replace James at tight end. Jamaal Williams comes over from Green Bay to split carries in the backfield with Swift. Detroit is also taking a flier on former top 100 picks, such as edge rusher Charles Harris and linebacker Alex Anzalone. The big addition is defensive tackle Michael Brockers, who comes over from the Rams via trade.
