Why the Packers make sense

The Packers reached a second successive NFC Championship game despite their controversial and well-documented decision to draft Rodgers’ heir apparent, Jordan Love, rather than a receiver in the first round last year.

If they pass on this receiver class, it will arguably be even more egregious. While Marquez Valdes-Scantling displayed encouraging progress in 2020, the Packers still lack reliability at the receiver position beyond Davante Adams.

Moore’s consistency in getting open and his concentration at the catch point would give Rodgers another target he can depend on while filling a need in the slot that has not been properly addressed since Randall Cobb’s departure.

Malik Taylor was the Packers’ go-to on jet sweeps and designed hand-offs out of the backfield last season, but it has remained an aspect of the Shanahan offense that Green Bay and Matt LaFleur have not sufficiently harnessed.

Moore would improve that dimension of the attack and, while there may be more elusive receivers in the open field in the draft, the Packers may be willing to sacrifice that for a versatile slot option who will not kill them with key drops as the younger members of their receiving corps have in recent times.

The Packers are running out of time to get over the hump and win a second Super Bowl with Rodgers. Receiving help will be key to them doing so and, as such, Moore should be in the mix for them with the 29th overall pick.
