Texans 2021 NFL Draft primer: Beginning the David Culley era
By Cory Kinnan
Top targets in 2021 NFL Draft for Texans
Payton Turner, EDGE, Houston
After a dynamic Senior season and explosive pro day where he scored a Relative Athletic Score of 9.74 out of 10, Houston pass rusher Payton Turner looks like a top-64 lock. However, if he slips to the Texans to start the third round, it would be a home run for Caserio and company. He played high school ball in Houston, college ball in Houston, so why not play professionally in Houston as well?
Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky
A top cornerback in the class who may fall due to some off-the-field issues revolving around his transfer from LSU to Kentucky, Kelvin Joseph has top-50 talent. If he falls to the third round, he could be a candidate for the Texans in order to upgrade their secondary. However, a team preaching (wording was chosen intentionally) culture change may steer clear.
Aaron Banks, IOL, Notre Dame
One of the more unsung offensive linemen in this year’s draft class is Notre Dame guard Aaron Banks. An All-American from 2020, Banks declared for the draft instead of returning to South Bend with a chance to play left tackle for the Fighting Irish. As Houston looks to upgrade their offensive line, Banks would be a great fit along their offensive trenches to block for whoever will be playing quarterback in 2021.
