Jaguars 2021 NFL Draft primer as Trevor Lawrence era begins
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the worst team in the NFL in 2020, and that was the best possible scenario for them. Looking at their roster, it makes sense that they were so bad, but now that they have the number one overall pick, that roster can get a much-needed boost through the 2021 NFL Draft. With a brand new coaching staff and front office, new head coach Urban Meyer has a lot of eyes on his first-ever NFL Draft.
After a decent rookie season, some Jaguars fans were hoping that Gardner Minshew would be the guy that would take the reigns and become their starting quarterback, but luckily for the Jags, that didn’t happen. Minshew is a nice backup quarterback, but he’s a guy that would win seven or eight games every year if built around, pushing the team just out of range for a quarterback to make them playoff contenders. Now that they hold the top pick, the Jaguars can get the guy to lead their team into the future as they look to start a rebuild that has been in the works for a few years now.
The top overall pick signals great change for the Jaguars
For a while, the Jaguars were holding the number two pick in the draft, until the Jets won a game against the Rams, boosting the Jags to number one because of the strength of schedule rule. The number one pick means so much for the Jaguars. It means that the team finally has the chance to get a true game-changer at quarterback. Jaguars fans have said the vibe of the future already feels different, and they haven’t even seen who else they will draft.
