Cardinals land Damonte Coxie. W 29496 /

Round 7, Pick 243: Damonte Coxie, WR, Memphis

Larry Fitzgerald is contemplating retirement. The Cardinals brought in A.J. Green, who is only a few years younger. They could benefit from adding a younger receiver with a high upside to help out DeAndre Hopkins. Damonte Coxie fits the bill.

Coxie was actually very close to becoming the all-time reception and receiving yard leader for the Memphis Tigers. He only played two games in 2020 because he opted out. In 2018 and 2019, he had two back-to-back seasons of over 1,100 yards. 2019 was his best season, where he put up 1,276 yards on 76 receptions with nine touchdowns.

The Memphis star receiver has sleeper written all over him. He could be a perfect fit for a Cardinals team that needs some more depth at receiver. He has reliable hands, great size (6-foot-3 and 197 pounds), and physicality. Coxie could immediately be in the rotation at wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. A.J. Green could end up being a solid free-agent acquisition, but he is still getting up there in age (32). Drafting a receiver with potential like Coxie would potentially take some pressure off DeAndre Hopkins. Even though he is a great receiver, he shouldn’t be the only one making the plays.

Round 7, Pick 247 (from the Bears/Raiders): William Bradley-King, EDGE, Baylor

In free agency, the Arizona Cardinals lost Haason Reddick. They were able to sign Markus Golden and they have Devon Kennard. But it wouldn’t hurt to add some depth in the later rounds of the draft.

William Bradley-King has potential. He is quick off the snap, plays with good leverage coming out of the three-point stance, and uses his hands effectively. Bradley-King keeps his feet moving, can change directions quickly, and flashes good pass-rush skills.

The thing is, he may fall down to the seventh round because he is small. Bradley-King has a 6-foot-3 and 254-pound frame. He lacks bulk and could be controlled by a single blocker. Bradley-King also has average play speed. But for a seventh round pick, Bradley-King has potential. He could come into the NFL and be a great situational pass rusher and special teams player for the Cardinals immediately.

By drafting William Bradley-King to finish the draft, the Cardinals will pretty much have all of their needs filled before the start of the 2021 season. As long as the 2021 NFL Draft goes well, there’s no reason to think the Cardinals can’t be a solid contender next year. Honestly, you could say they are already a contender even before the 2021 NFL Draft.
