Ravens can fix the pass rush issue with Jaelan Phillips, EDGE Miami

Phillips is a mix of the top EDGE on boards and somewhere in the top three. Miami had an amazing set of pass rushers this year on that team, but Phillips was the best. He does not come free of concerns, however. Once retired due to concussions when he was at UCLA he came out of retention and went to Miami.

He absolutely blew up and showed that talent everyone thought he had when he went to UCLA.

At 6-foot-5 and 266 pounds, much was expected out of one of the best players who came out of high school that year. Yet, he played just 10 games in two seasons at UCLA before retiring. In 2020 at Miami he matched that game total and wound up with eight sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss, both were more than his first two years combined. His 45 total tackles were also more than the first two years combined.

As long as he can stay healthy he could be the next elite defender for the Ravens and at a bargain price for his talent, due to the concerns.

He did not show any real rust after not playing a game in two years, but there could still be a learning curve. It could take him a year or two at the next level, to get the form we saw in 2020. The NFL is a much different ball game than college football, and unlike his former colleagues he will easily be the best pass-rusher on this team. When taking him they will need to make sure they scheme and use him correctly early on, and take care of his head injuries.
