Kyle Trask, Quarterback, Florida

Grade: C +

Even though the broadcast and Twitter eluded Trask being the eventual replacement for Tom Brady, I do not believe it. Trask had a cool story at Florida and did well under Dan Mullen even becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist. He looks like an NFL quarterback with his size but his performance in the bowl game left me thinking it was more of his talent around him than Trask himself being a great quarterback. Both Kadarius Toney and Kyle Pitts opted out of the bowl game where the Gators got routed by the Oklahoma Sooners and Trask threw three interceptions.

For the Bucs, he will come in and be the backup with Ryan Griffin. He is definitely a guy that needs to sit and learn from Tom Brady, he is not a day one starter by any means. I actually was hoping the team would draft Davis Mills from Stanford rather than Trask. Don’t get me wrong, I think Trask is an NFL quarterback but where he was selected makes me think that the team is projecting him to be a starter for them at some point, and like I said I just don’t see it.

I would have given this a B rating if the Bucs would have taken him in the third round but the second round is too rich for me.

Robert Hainsey, Offensive Lineman, Notre Dame

Grade: B

He may not be the best lineman from Notre Dame coming out this year but I love the pick. Hainsey brings so much versatility to the line with his ability to play inside and outside. With Joe Haeg moving on in Free Agency, Tampa had to add a guy that could be a swing right tackle and add depth at the guard position. Alex Cappa, the Bucs’ starting right guard is in the final year of his rookie deal and coming off a foot injury in the playoffs.

Long term, Hainsey could be a serviceable starting guard or center if the Bucs decide to move on in the future from their older linemen like Ryan Jensen or move Ali Marpet to center. Hainsey’s ability to play center is a plus for me because eventually, the Bucs will need to replace Jensen who will be in his 30’s this season and is one of the higher-priced players on the roster. I also liked the fact that he played tougher competition in college and was named a team captain last season.

In the short term, give him some time and he will be valuable as a backup in 2021 and 2022.
