Packers: Is there hope for Aaron Rodgers after 2021 NFL Draft wrap-up?
Packers finally get a wide receiver in the third round in Amari Rodgers.
Amari Rodgers is coming from Clemson who should be able to step up and finally take over the second wideout role they have needed for a while. Rodgers is no stranger to solid quarterback play after having Trevor Lawrence, and he is talented. He brought in 77 catches for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns last year. However, he does not come without his own questions.
He is 5-foot-9 and 212 pounds and ran a very low 4.51 40-yard dash at his pro-day.
That is the size of a slot receiver with the speed of some of the tight ends coming out. So, he might start off with an odd fit. Had his speed been closer to the 4.4 range he would have gone higher. Though even with the slower speed, he still has more talent than any other wide receiver on the Packers roster after Adams.
They at least got a wide receiver, but his fit right now is the biggest concern.
With multiple other options left on the board who were taller or faster, they must have a plan for Rodgers out of the gate. This is their third pick in a row, where there were better options and better fits left on the board. I think many thought Nico Collins out of Michigan may have been the pick here or a trade-up for Dyami Brown.
It’s hard to argue that they didn’t fill the position, because he is in fact a wide receiver, but not the one I am sure Rodgers or the fans hoped for.
