Packers: Is there hope for Aaron Rodgers after 2021 NFL Draft wrap-up?
The Packers final rounds were nothing to write home about, but they did find some value.
In the fifth round, they selected Tedarrell Slaton, defensive tackle, Florida, and Shemar Jean-Charles, corner, Appalachian State. Which was followed by Cole Van Lanen, offensive guard, Wisconsin, Isaiah McDuffie, linebacker, Boston College in the sixth, and then Kylin Hill, running back, Mississippi State in the seventh.
Which made for three picks out of their nine picks used on the offensive line. Which did not fare bad last year, and they replaced losing their starting center early.
They waited far too long to go after linebacker when they finally got one in Isaiah McDuffie who seems more like a tweener at 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds at the moment. They also replaced Jamall Williams the running back with their last pick in Kylin Hill, who might be the best pick after the third round they will have as his career goes on. The last half of the draft seemed more like filling needs with who was there, more so than what they wanted to do.
Coming into the final rounds they had three large needs to me and filled two out of the three, with the tight ends left on the board one could have been a pick and might have been a better option over McDuffie or Van Lanen.
All in all the draft was just ok for the packers, they reached and waited to fill some holes. I don’t think they addressed the wide receiver position correctly and waited too long for a linebacker and defensive tackle. Their best pick was most likely their center who will start day one without question. After all the Rodgers problems and trade hype, I thought they would have tried to do more to keep him in the fold, reaching on Stokes was maybe the final straw.
