Protect the quarterback in any way possible.
New York proved in the 2020 NFL Draft that it would do anything to protect their quarterback. Trading up for USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and pairing him with star left tackle Mekhi Becton should give the Jets a sturdy left side for years to come.
However, the right side of the line is not truly fortified. The Jets did bring in former Washington Football Team tackle Morgan Moses, but what are the chances he sticks past his one-year contract? Thus, the Jets need to look at younger options that could fill in as the right tackle of the future.
The current big-name tackle for this class is Alabama’s, Evan Neal. Neal is a notably large individual, as he is 6’7, 351 lbs. He has experience starting both at left and right tackle, so the adjustment is not necessarily a concern. His major concern, though, is his movement abilities given his size. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur runs a wide-zone offense, and that requires linemen to be decently athletic. Can he function in an offense that requires him to move as much as the Jets’ does?
Texas A&M’s Kenyon Green fits more with the Jets’ offense, as he is a great athlete for a tackle. He’s rawer in pass protection, but if he develops, he’d be a great fit for the Jets. Another top name is Washington’s Jaxson Kirkland, who is a similar mold to Neal. He is a great protector, but he’s not overwhelmingly athletic. However, his 6’7, 300-pound size and his ability make him intriguing nonetheless.
If the Jets need to find their future at the right tackle position, those names are expected to take a jump. This offensive tackle class is not nearly as deep as 2021 or 2020, but there is still talent here.
