Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

Sure, the Jaguars rookie quarterback has flashed at times early in his first season, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least somewhat disappointed in Trevor Lawrence. While the transition from college to the NFL is never easy, we expected to see better results from a player who is considered by many to be one of the best quarterback prospects of all time.

Through his first four games, Lawrence has been far too careless with the football and has made some awful decisions throwing into double (and even triple) coverage. This has resulted in him throwing 5 touchdowns to a whopping 7 interceptions for just 6.1 yards per attempt and a dismal 66.4 passer rating, via Pro Football Reference.

The good news is that, in addition to the bad, we have also seen a lot of good from Trevor Lawrence, and he’s trending in the right direction. After passer ratings of 37.2 and 68.1 in back-to-back weeks, the first-overall pick played his best game of the season last week with a  96.5 passer rating in just a 3-point loss to the Bengals.

Lawrence doesn’t exactly have the most talent around him, but he should continue to get better as the season goes on.

These three players are very early into their NFL careers, and all three have the talent and physical tools to play much better than they have been. So far, however, their rookie seasons have been a bit of a letdown.
