The New York Jets need help at many positions, but here’s why they should target linebacker Henry To’oto’o in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Jets have been lacking in the linebacking core for quite some time. Henry To’o To’o after some time in Tennessee broke out even more with Alabama. He could be just the type of off-ball linebacker the Jets need to revamp that corps. The question will be whether or not they can get him to slide into the second round, as of now he is projected late-first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

To’oto’o started out his career at the rival University of Tennessee before transferring over to Alabama for his final season in college. Where he almost took home the title, he finished the 2021 season with 111 total tackles, 59 solo tackles, four sacks, and pass break-ups, according to Sports Reference — all of which were career highs or tied career highs.

Coming out of the gate and hitting 111 total tackles on an Alabama defense is nothing to brush over, that’s a machine. Finishing his college career with a total of 259 total tackles, 132 solo tackles, five and a half sacks, and six pass breakups.

To’oto’o stands at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, which is a similar size to Fred Warner coming out of college.

Jets have a huge need at LB

The Jets have a massive need at the linebacker position, outside of C.J. Mosley there is little to be desired. The linebacking corps has been a weak spot for the Jets for years, and with the pass rush finally coming together it’s time to focus on the back half of the front seven.

While To’oto’o projects better inside than outside at the linebacker position, the player whose size he is similar to in Fred Warner was just recently coached by the current head coach of the Jets. There is also more than a small chance Mosley is cut or delt this off-season. But, if they keep Mosley around To’oto’o and Mosley would be a great pair and could stay on the field all three downs.

Right now as it stands, To’oto’o seems to come in around the late-to-end of the first round. While the Jets have enough ammo to move up from the second round, I think a move down from their second first is more likely.

However, it is early in the process so I would expect to see linebackers slide down in mocks and more offensive linemen and pass rushers move up.

There are multiple ways they can go out and get To’oto’o, but even he can’t fix everything. The Jets need to continue working on a linebacking corps with little talent and depth. But, this team is also still trying to transition from a 3-4 to a more base 4-3/nickle type system.

To’oto’o is a good way to get started as he can slot in as either OLB, or ILB, and shows the speed and movement needed to stay on the field in the nickel package. He would be a perfect fit for the New York Jets.
