Seattle Seahawks: Cornerback

Let’s start with the underachieving team of the division.

As aforementioned, the Seahawks were the only team in the NFC West who did not improve from the 2020 season. In fact, they won five fewer games and lost six more. That is quite a big step backward, but in all fairness, they were missing star quarterback Russell Wilson for two of those games.

Speaking of Russell Wilson, there’s growing speculation regarding the quarterback not playing for Seattle in the 2022 season. For the sake of this article, however, let’s pretend he will still be under center for the Seahawks come September.

Even if he is, this roster needs some help, and one position where they for sure need help is cornerback. Per teamrankings.com, the Seahawks ranked 31st in average opponent pass yards per game with 265.5. Granted, that’s not on the cornerbacks alone, but when you look at Seattle’s defensive depth chart it’s easy to see that cornerback is not a strength of theirs.

Who the Seahawks could target in the draft:

For the sixth time in the past 10 drafts, the Seattle Seahawks do not have a first-round pick. As of now, their first pick of the NFL Draft will be in the second round. If they were to go with a cornerback for their first pick, some names they could target in that area are University of Florida’s Kaiir Elam, University of Georgia’s Derion Kendrick, or University of Alabama’s Josh Jobe.
