The Carolina Panthers are a team with multiple positions that need to be addressed before the start of next season.

With legitimate need at linebacker, the offensive line, the secondary, and potentially the quarterback position, the Panthers could attack this off-season in a magnitude of different ways.

While they will attempt to address some of this through the draft, having just one pick over the first two days will impact how they approach this. This could put them into a situation where they choose to draft the best player available over a player that may fill a positional need.

While prospects such as Ikem Ekwonu or Charless Cross could be realistic options for the Panthers, this is a deep draft class and they can address the offensive line with their late round picks. No player may be a better fit than Kyle Hamilton, who is regarded as the best prospect in this year’s class by many.

During Hamilton’s three-year collegiate career at Notre Dame, he proved to be one of the best players in college football. He finished with 138 total tackles, eight interceptions, and 16 passes broken up in 31 career games.

Outside of his statistics on the field, his pure athleticism and ability to make a play is also worth noting. At 6-4 and 220 pounds, Hamilton doesn’t fit the normal mold of a safety.

From the outside looking in, he comes across as more of a linebacker but is more than capable of being a top player in the secondary. While he’s not the fastest, he is still able to move across the field and make a play.

There is a sense of versatility that comes with Hamilton as well. He has spent enough time in man-to-man coverage, zone coverage, and in the slot to be effective in each area. His frame, mixed with these skills, will allow him to keep up with nearly anyone on the field.

Alongside his elite coverage skills, he has also shown that he can be effective when blitzing. He recorded 7.5 tackles for loss during his time at Notre Dame. The veralitly could see Hamilton used all over the defensive side of the ball.

When looking at the current Panthers defense, they have formed a core of young, but talented pieces. Players such as Brian Burns, Jaycee Horn, Jeremy Chinn, and CJ Henderson were all first or second-round selections in the last three seasons.

The possibility of pairing Kyle Hamilton with safety Jeremy Chinn could also be what makes this selection such a great fit. Chinn has proven to be one of the most exciting safeties in the NFL.

Over his first two seasons in the NFL Chinn has recorded 224 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, and five total turnovers.

A secondary consisting of Kyle Hamilton, Jeremy Chinn, Jaycee Horn, and CJ Henderson could potentially be the best young group in the NFL. All these players will be around for the foreseeable future. Adding a player of Hamilton’s caliber to this group could be too good to pass on, even with the other positions that this team will still need to address.
