58. . . . Washington Commanders. 1. team

The newly-named Commanders have a need at quarterback and can get a nice payout for the 11th overall pick to slide down for a quarterback. As it seems Carolina will be taking one off the board, and they could get jumped for the second one.

The Commanders need a new quarterback to lead the team and could slide down to the late teens and have their pick for Malik Willis or Desmond Ridder. Each comes with its own ups and downs, while Willis seems to fit the Ron Rivera mold. Ridder would make more sense for a team whose offense is still building and comes with a more consistent arm and mind.

There will be no shortage of teams trying to move up, and the Commanders could get some solid value for a top-12 pick and still come away with a new quarterback.

The added value could be used to add in on WR which the depth in this class is quite large and fill in some holes on the offensive line. While last year their defense was more or less quite a letdown, it has enough talent to come back. So I would look for their first several picks to be on the offensive side of the ball.

With a tough NFC East, as we look forward to 2023 having a healthy Cowboys, and a Philadelphia team loaded with draft picks, the Commanders can not afford to fall too far behind.

Even the Giants have two picks in the top seven, which could be used to recharge that team as well. Should the Commanders want to keep the pace moving down, getting more picks or pick and a player while still filling the void at QB seems to be the most logical way for them to succeed.

I do not see them targeting a QB in free agent or the trade market, as they will need that cap space for OL, DB, and WR. Not to mention, some guys about to come upon contract here quickly.

Next. NFC west just won the SB now what do they need for 2023?. dark

Who should they target?

Desmond Ridder, QB out of Cincinnati, should be their target. He is more pro-ready than Willis is, and will fit well in that offense. With the Commanders already having a good ground game, Ridder is smart with the football and more mobile than he gets credit for. He also should be ready to come in on day one, even if it’s a little sketchy for a while.
