Devante Adams, arguably the best receiver in the NFL right now, just swapped Green Bay for Las Vegas, so how do the Packers use their newly-acquired first-round pick in this year’s draft?

The obvious argument is to bring in a direct replacement this off-season, Aaron Rodgers has just signed an extension in Wisconsin, but he needs someone to throw the ball to.

Allen Lazard has shown his talent as a WR2 behind Adams, and Randall Cobb has been great in the slot, but now there is a hole in the third spot along the line. With that being said, let’s have a look at the possible options for Green Bay with their 22nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Chris Olave

I’m unsure whether Olave drops as low as 22, but if he does he’d be a great asset for Green Bay. First off, he’s unlike any receiver that Aaron Rodgers had to work with last season.

He’s a very powerful runner when he catches the ball with space in front of him, which is why he ended up with just under 1000 yards on the season on just 65 receptions in his 12 games with the Buckeyes this season.

From Olave’s perspective, this would be a huge upgrade for field-general. No disrespect to CJ Stroud; but receiving passes from the current MVP, and a man that has thrown for over 4000 yards in consecutive seasons, could be fantastic for the development of the young playmaker.

However – playing devil’s advocate – if the Packers are looking for a direct replacement in the NFL Draft for Davante Adams for this season, I don’t think Olave is that. Obviously, he could be developed into the same type of route runner as Tae, but he doesn’t seem to have the same agility or ruthless natural change of speed
